Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Heavy Motor Equipment Operator to join our Public Works team in Needham, MA. As a key member of our Highway Division, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining motorized equipment, performing roadway handwork, snow and ice treatment, and preparing routine records and reports.

About the Role

The successful candidate will have a valid MA Driver's License, CDL Class A or B, and relevant experience in operating heavy motorized equipment. You will work closely with our team to maintain public roadways, including construction, improvement, repair, and maintenance of Town roads, sidewalks, curbs, walls, and related structures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate light and heavy motorized and hydraulic equipment, including trucks, front-end loaders, backhoes, tractors, sweepers, pavers, rollers, and other equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repair to equipment, conduct inspections on departmental vehicles and equipment, and maintain equipment logs and reports.
  • Repair and resurface roads and sidewalks, grade shoulders, set curbs, and place and finish concrete sidewalk work.
  • Prepare roadways for larger resurfacing projects by patching, inlays, edging, and other tasks.
  • Set up traffic safety patterns and safe work zones.
  • Participate in the Snow & Ice Program, treating roads with salt/chemical spreaders, plowing, snow hauling, and inspecting and maintaining all equipment used.
Requirements
  • Valid MA Driver's License
  • CDL Class A or B
  • Class 2A/2B and 1C Hoisting Engineer's Licenses or ability to obtain within six months of employment
  • General knowledge equivalent to the completion of high school and specialized courses
  • One (1) to three (3) years of directly relevant experience
  • Ability to work with a team or independently
  • Ability to communicate basic project information to members of the public
  • Advanced-level skills using heavy motor equipment
  • Ability to lift up to and including 100 pounds
