Job Summary

Area Wide Protective (AWP) is seeking a highly skilled Traffic Control Specialist to join our team. As a Traffic Control Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of workers and the general public in highway construction projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform manual labor tasks in highway construction projects, including preparing equipment and vehicles for use.
  • Conduct regular maintenance on equipment to ensure it is in good working condition.
  • Maintain a clean and organized job site, including picking up tools and equipment and securing the site at the end of each day.
  • Assist with material handling and storage, as well as shop work as assigned.
  • Support the daily maintenance of company vehicles, including checking fluid levels, fuel levels, and tire pressure.
  • Load and unload trucks, and follow proper towing procedures for trailer-mounted equipment.
  • Deliver materials to job sites and ensure that all safety protocols are followed.
  • Report any incidents or issues to the supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Stand for extended periods of time (over 8 hours) and wear personal protective equipment as required by company standards.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and colleagues in a professional manner.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license.
  • 21 years of age or older.
  • Knowledge of heavy/highway construction equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Knowledge of first aid and safety procedures.
  • Ability to read and comprehend work orders and plans.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry objects weighing over 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions.
  • Clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass a DOT physical examination.
  • Ability to pass a federal background check.
  • Basic literacy skills, including the ability to read, write, and record routine data and information.
