About the Role

New York Edge is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to fill the position of After School Program Director. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our after school program, ensuring the delivery of high-quality services to our students and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee program staff, operations, and services to ensure compliance with established timeframes and guidelines.
  • Conduct staff performance evaluations and development plans in coordination with the Program Manager and HR.
  • Provide weekly and monthly team meetings to encourage feedback and discussions on classroom management, lesson planning, and social emotional learning.
  • Communicate regularly with the supervisor on program updates, progress, and needs.
  • Coordinate outreach to the community and present on the program to actively recruit participants.
  • Prepare various documents and reports for internal and external reporting purposes.
  • Provide individual supervision to staff members with feedback, goal setting, and assessment of competencies.
  • Support all team members, including indirect reports, and provide feedback as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Program Manager, Borough Director, and New York Edge Curriculum and Training Departments to develop and implement monthly all-staff professional development workshops.
  • Collaborate with the Principal and APs on program delivery to align with goals related to student achievement and performance.
  • Monitor and ensure all program compliance, including student registration, staff documents, ratios, attendance tracking, IDs, and building permits.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required, with a preference in Education, Psychology, or Social Work.
  • At least 18.0 credit hours from an accredited college or university in the field of Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation, or a related field preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in urban education, youth development, or community organizing, with at least one (1) year of supervisory experience.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with youth and adolescents in New York City in an after-school or community center setting.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, manage priorities, and workflow while maintaining a positive, patient, and calm demeanor.
  • Strong understanding of New York City and New York State education requirements in an urban setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with a diverse range of individuals.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Work is performed mostly within a New York City Public School but requires interaction with the community at-large during events, outreach, and trips.
  • May be required to walk up and down stairs, lift or move objects/materials as needed.
  • Work hours will be consistent Monday through Friday with potential for some weekend or evening scheduled activities or events.
