The Transportation Support Specialist plays a crucial role in facilitating transportation services for clients and donations across three main programs: Refugee Services, the Food Pantry, and the Emergency Family Shelter. This position is overseen by the Director of Programs and collaborates closely with Program Managers. The role involves various physical tasks including lifting, twisting, and other movements as required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Food Pantry Duties
- Conduct regular pickups of food donations from vendors using a truck.
- Foster positive relationships with vendors, donors, clients, staff, and volunteers.
- Engage in repetitive physical activities such as squatting, lifting, and carrying while managing items for transport.
- Coordinate with the Food Pantry Program Manager regarding irregular food donations.
- Facilitate deliveries between Catholic Charities programs and partner organizations as needed.
Refugee Services Responsibilities
- Assist the Refugee Services Logistics Coordinator with donation pickups and client transportation training.
- Provide transportation for refugee clients to various appointments, including airport pickups, medical visits, job interviews, cultural orientations, and school enrollments, ensuring efficient scheduling with Case Managers.
- Help set up living spaces for newly arrived refugees in collaboration with the Logistics Coordinator, Case Managers, and volunteers, which may involve heavy lifting.
- Document client interactions and maintain accurate records as required.
- Deliver services in a culturally sensitive manner, offering translation and interpretation as necessary to enhance client participation.
Emergency Family Shelter Tasks
- Assist with moving furniture to and from the Catholic Charities warehouse.
- Support donation pickups and drop-offs for the Emergency Family Shelter program.
- Help families receive donations and transport them to their new residences.
- Pick up and deliver groceries and supplies as requested by program management.
- Coordinate client transportation with relevant staff members.
General Duties
- Participate in staff meetings and organizational events as required.
- Record mileage and fuel usage for organizational vehicles.
- Ensure timely maintenance of organization vehicles as scheduled.
- Provide assistance to Pastoral Center staff with furniture movement and donation pickups when necessary.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- A high school diploma or GED with one to three months of relevant experience or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Proficient in computer applications, particularly Microsoft Office Suite, and capable of learning various data management systems.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to establish boundaries and build effective teams.
- Problem-solving abilities to navigate diverse situations with limited standardization.
- Knowledge of standard office procedures and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- A valid driver's license and access to a reliable, insured vehicle.
- Ability to pass a child abuse registry check and criminal background check, along with a clean driving record.
- Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly, with occasional lifting of heavier items.
