About the Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Psychologist to join our team at The University of Iowa. As a key member of our University Counseling Service, you will play a vital role in providing psychological services to our diverse student body.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing individual assessment and counseling, clinical crisis services, case management, group counseling, and psycho-educational outreach programming to students, staff, faculty, and parents/families. You will also supervise and train graduate students in the mental health professions and work collaboratively with other UI units to develop and implement outreach programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry a clinical case load providing counseling to individuals, couples, and groups, consulting with other professionals as necessary.
  • Provide diagnoses, assessment, and treatment for emotional and functional disorders through primarily brief model counseling.
  • Supervise, evaluate, and assist trainees in various content areas.
  • Conduct workshops and outreach services designed to provide mental health education to students, staff, faculty, administrators, and parents/families.
  • Develop cooperative working relationships with UI units.
  • Design and develop outreach programs to meet the needs of requesting UI units and organizations.
Requirements
  • Doctoral degree in either Counseling or Clinical Psychology from an APA-Accredited program.
  • Possession of a valid State of Iowa license as a psychologist within 18 months of hire. License must be maintained as a condition of continued employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Relevant post-degree clinical work experience (typically 1-3 years).
  • Working proficiency with drop-in mental health consultation services, such as Let's Talk programming.
  • Working proficiency in suicide prevention outreach and programming.
  • Experience and interest in providing couples/relationship counseling.
  • Working proficiency with TLDP, ACT, and Relational Cultural theories.
  • Interest and/or experience in counseling center research.
  • Working proficiency and interest in providing brief psychoeducational group interventions.
