Accountant III

The City of Saint Paul is seeking a highly skilled Accountant III to join our Office of Financial Services team. As a key member of our accounting team, you will be responsible for performing professional accounting and auditing work in the maintenance of complex general departmental funds and financial reports.

• Manage a portfolio of accounting functions, including payroll, cash, asset management, and allocations accounting.
• Prepare financial statements and periodic financial reports, as well as forecasts on various aspects of funds and projects.
• Perform internal auditing work of a complex or advanced nature, examining and verifying the accuracy of accounting reports, records, documents, statements, and other financial information.
• Operate within our Enterprise Resource Planning System, supporting system upgrades and testing.
• Lead accounting processes in collaboration with department finance staff.
• Determine proper accounting procedures and methods, and recommend changes as needed.
• Compile, write, and present complex accounting reports.

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, public administration, or a related field, including 24 quarter credits or 16 semester credits in accounting courses.
• Five years of experience in accounting, at least two years of which must have been as an Accountant II or equivalent.

• Governmental accounting experience.
• Experience with preparing annual audited financial statements and working with auditors.
• Intermediate level experience using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (e.g. Infor).
• Excellent communication skills.
