Job Summary

The Nurse Clinician - Oncology Infusion position at Northwestern Medicine reflects the organization's mission, vision, and values, adhering to the Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program. This role requires exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, physicians, and clinical and administrative units.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Maintain a safe and clean work environment, ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations and reporting deficiencies to the supervisor immediately.
  2. Provide pre-attending care for patients, performing comprehensive assessments and documenting all nursing assessments in the patient's medical record.
  3. Perform routine nursing duties, including phlebotomy, medication administration, and measurement of vital signs, demonstrating clinical competency when performing complex specialty-related procedures.
  4. Interpret and define abnormalities detected in tests and procedures, taking appropriate remedial action and documenting all interventions in the patient medical record.
  5. Communicate and collaborate with other departments to coordinate patient care, as needed, and triage and prioritize incoming telephone calls using clinical assessment skills and service standards.
  6. Manage urgent/emergent medical situations as appropriate and in accordance with the organization's protocols for medical emergencies and cardiac arrests.
  7. Serve as a resource for staff and physicians for daily problem solving and decision-making, maintaining a consistent alertness to patient care needs and taking a proactive approach to address/resolve issues.
  8. Comply with all existing policies and procedures related to patient care, making recommendations to management regarding new policies and procedures that may improve the patient experience.
  9. Initiate and coordinate patient education, ensuring that patients understand educational materials and can exhibit return demonstration when pertinent.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess an Associate's degree in nursing, be a Registered Professional Nurse licensed in the State of Illinois, and have certification in Basic CPR. Two years of relevant clinical experience in an acute or ambulatory care environment is also required.

A Bachelor's degree in nursing may be preferred for certain positions, and a $10,000 sign-on bonus is available for external candidates and candidates who have not worked at Northwestern Medicine in over 1 year.
