The following are the responsibilities of this position at the full working level:

  • Evaluates and interprets internal documents and/or taxpayer submissions, prepares coded entries to amend and finalize records, and refers questionable submissions and documents to appropriate areas for corrective action.
  • Processes individual or small business submissions and cases that involve relationships among different accounts spanning multiple tax periods. Assigns Employee Identification Numbers (EIN) and temporary Social Security Numbers (SSN). Requests and interprets taxpayer information. Refines documents and initiates research to rectify missing or inaccurate account information, inquiries to third parties, and modifications to taxpayer accounts to correct discrepancies.
  • Compiles and maintains functional and/or assigned area records or reports to provide status updates on work.
  • May serve as a technical advisor, on-the-job (OJT) coach, classroom instructor, or reviewer to provide technical assistance on systemic issues and inconsistencies in Internal Revenue Manuals (IRM).
This position offers career advancement opportunities. If selected at a grade level lower than the full working level, you may be non-competitively promoted as your career progresses. For instance, you may be hired at a GS-05 level, but if the position has career progression to GS-11, you may advance from a GS-05 to a GS-11 in a relatively short time frame.

Qualifications

Federal experience is not required. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
