Job Summary:

LifeSpan is seeking a highly skilled Physical Therapy Assistant to join our team. As a Physical Therapy Assistant, you will work under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist to provide treatment to patients of all ages, helping them achieve or restore strength, endurance, and mobility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize proper body mechanics to ensure personal and patient safety, and demonstrate the ability to safely lift, transfer, and mobilize patients and equipment.
  • Employ therapeutic modalities such as ultrasound, whirlpool, electrical stimulation, mechanical apparatus, massage, manual therapy, hot/cold application, and other treatments as needed, with demonstrated competency verified by the physical therapist/supervisor.
  • Continuously monitor patients and adjust treatment plans to achieve desired outcomes, in consultation with the physical therapist, and progress patients or recommend continuation or discharge from physical therapy as needed.
  • Notify the physical therapist of the need for patient reassessment or reevaluation.
  • Educate and train patients, families, and caregivers on proper exercise techniques, use of equipment, and assistive devices to be used outside of treatment sessions.
  • Provide written documentation as necessary, including daily treatment statistics, billing slips, and other forms.
  • Participate in departmental inservices, team meetings, and quality assurance activities.
  • Maintain and clean equipment and work environment, and order supplies and patient equipment as needed.

Requirements:

  • Associate Degree from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program.
  • Licensed by the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations Department of Health Division of Professional Regulations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
  • New Graduate considered; clinical experience in an acute care setting preferred, may include clinical fieldwork experience in acute care.
