Position Overview:
The Coding Operations Manager plays a pivotal role in supporting leadership and supervisors in the strategic planning, organization, and oversight of the hospital's coding teams. This position ensures adherence to policies, budgetary constraints, and objectives set forth by regulatory bodies and the executive leadership.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist coding supervisors in upholding team discipline and maintaining established standard operating procedures.
  • Oversee and coordinate all activities related to coding and billing for Bozeman Health and its affiliated entities.
  • Conduct research and provide educational resources for all departmental functions concerning coding practices.
  • Collaborate closely with various revenue cycle functions, including Patient Financial Services, IT, compliance, finance, and clinical departments.
  • Ensure the accuracy of claims development by applying a thorough understanding of coding principles, regulations, and compliance requirements.

Qualifications:
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, with relevant certification (RHIT or RHIA); Coding Certification (CCA, CPC, CCS/CCS-P) with leadership experience may also be considered.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in healthcare administration, revenue cycle management, or coding.
  • At least three (3) years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Proficient knowledge of diagnostic and procedural coding systems.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements for various healthcare settings.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in healthcare administration or a related field.
  • Experience in coding management, with proficiency in Epic and 3M systems.

Essential Functions:
In addition to the core responsibilities, the Coding Operations Manager is expected to:
  • Lead coding operations to ensure compliance with all regulatory standards.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to coding efficiency and accuracy.
  • Develop and present reports on coding trends to relevant committees and department leaders.
  • Analyze and address payer edit and denial trends to optimize reimbursement processes.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding systems and reimbursement processes.

Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong leadership and managerial capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Willingness to work extended hours as needed.
  • Flexibility to work beyond a standard 40-hour workweek.
