Position Overview:
The Senior Culinary Specialist embodies the mission and values of Northwestern Medicine, adhering to the organization's ethical standards and compliance protocols. This role is essential in supporting the Food and Nutrition Team by preparing meals and food items in a hygienic and efficient manner.

Work Schedule:
Shifts may vary, including early morning and evening hours, with the possibility of weekend shifts as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately measures, mixes, and prepares ingredients following established recipes.
  • Utilizes kitchen equipment effectively, including blenders, mixers, ovens, and more.
  • Exhibits proficient knife skills for various food preparation techniques.
  • Prepares and presents menu items for patients, catering, and café services according to quality standards.
  • Creates sauces, soups, and desserts that align with dietary guidelines.
  • Safely cooks various proteins using diverse methods such as baking and steaming.
  • Monitors food temperatures to ensure safety and quality throughout service.
  • Tests and adjusts cooking processes to guarantee optimal food preparation.
  • Delivers visually appealing and flavorful dishes.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and service areas.
  • Completes daily logs and assists in maintaining compliance with safety standards.
  • Communicates effectively with management regarding equipment maintenance and operational needs.
  • Performs additional tasks as assigned to meet departmental objectives.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent; or at least 1 year of relevant experience in cooking or food service.
  • Completion of Food Handler certification within the first 180 days of employment.

Preferred:

  • One year of experience in a healthcare cooking environment.
  • Completion of culinary education.
  • Basic understanding of dietary restrictions and special diets.
