Job Summary

The Sports Director is responsible for developing, organizing, and implementing high-quality YMCA programs. This includes overseeing the overall management and operations of Youth and Adult Sport programming, budget development and control, recruitment and training of staff and volunteers, programming, equipment maintenance, quality checks, enforcing safety standards, and other YMCA of Southwest Florida policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and administer budgets for the department using SGA software and meeting the budgeted net by year end.
  • Manage sports programs, including rosters, volunteers, and parent communications exclusively through Playerspace.
  • Develop a year-round schedule for sports programming.
  • Prepare and implement marketing plans for all areas of responsibilities to ensure growth each year.
  • Submit program information in accordance with cabinet and marketing published deadlines.
  • Be available to work evenings and weekends as called upon or as schedules dictate due to seasonal programming needs.
  • Assist with implementation of family programming and special events.
  • Work cooperatively with other department heads, volunteers, committees, community organizations, and departments.
  • Attend and participate in all staff meetings and trainings and encourage other staff to do the same.
  • Recruit and supervise quality staff and volunteers to further the mission of the YMCA and enhance programming.
  • Provide quality ongoing training for staff and volunteers that will enhance their capabilities and be applicable to their everyday work.
  • Provide director, hands-on, and documented training for staff, coaches, and volunteers.
  • Perform job functions with an enthusiastic manner and demonstrate commitment to the Strategic plan and initiatives.
  • Ability to work with diverse community members of all ages and demonstrate initiative in program development.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Maintain fields, facilities, and equipment related to the department activities.
  • Responsible for upholding all staff safety requirements, including cleaning protocols throughout the day, as required by the department.
Program Specific Responsibilities
  • Youth/Adult Sports
  • Secure and schedule athletic fields and facilities.
  • Organize and conduct parent orientation meetings.
  • Organize and conduct coaches' training and meetings.
  • Create teams from paid and financially assisted registrations.
  • Develop and distribute team practice and game schedules.
  • Train and schedule sports officials.
  • Develop and distribute sports rules, guidelines, and handbooks.
  • Purchase and distribute team uniforms and awards.
  • Coordinate and distribute team photographs.
  • Organize and host season parties and events.
  • Transport and set up equipment for games and practices.
  • Monitor and purchase necessary sporting equipment.
  • Organize and conduct sports clinics.
  • Camps
  • Create and schedule all camp sessions and activities.
  • Monitor daily camp operations to adhere to all state, local, and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  • Secure facilities and admission for camp field trips and events.
  • Secure and monitor transportation for field trips.
  • Purchase and maintain supplies for camp, including camp shirts.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of department leadership, preferably within the YMCA or other not-for-profit organization.
  • Successfully complete the State of Florida Criminal History Background Check requirements and meet the Association's policies on background screening.
  • Adhere to the drug/alcohol/smoke-free workplace policy.
  • Able to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Able to research and analyze.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be a self-starter, with high energy and a positive attitude.
Certifications and Training Requirements
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications required.
  • Completion of YMCA Leadership certification within 90 days.
  • Annual Completion of YMCA Blood Borne Pathogens Training.
  • Annual Completion of YMCA Child Sexual Abuse Prevention class.
  • Staff Safety Requirements/Cleaning Protocols.
  • Additional training classes as recommended by Supervisor.
