Position Overview

This role is a remote opportunity available to candidates in the Houston or Dallas regions.

Key Responsibilities

The forensic engineer will be tasked with identifying the specific causes of product, device, or material failures to enhance product longevity, performance, or safety. Forensic Engineers frequently participate in product liability cases and, on occasion, criminal cases, to investigate and provide expert testimony regarding design or failure sources.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Investigate the origins and causes of failures, damages, or defects in civil/structural contexts across residential, commercial, and industrial environments.
  • Analyze building system failures, determine their causes, assess construction quality, and review design or maintenance practices.
  • Engage in response efforts for catastrophic events such as hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, wildfires, and earthquakes.
  • Conduct field investigations, lead multi-party assessments, and document property damage.
  • Research failure modes and relevant code requirements, providing recommendations for repairs or remediation as necessary.
  • Draft precise, clear, comprehensive, and concise reports and correspondence detailing the causes and origins of damages for clients, adhering to established policies and procedures.
  • Provide expert testimony in legal proceedings as required.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams on large and complex projects.
  • Establish trusted relationships with clients and engage socially at various events.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or a related field is essential.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license is required (preferably in the state of employment).
  • 5 to 7+ years of experience in design across residential, commercial, and industrial settings is preferred.
  • Experience with commercial and industrial facilities is advantageous.
  • Forensic experience is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Technical proficiency, including Microsoft Suite and CRM tools.
  • Willingness to travel as needed, primarily regional/local with occasional overnight stays.
  • Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including inclement weather.
  • Capability to work at heights, such as roofs or scaffolding, requiring physical agility and balance.
