About the Opportunity

This is an exciting open position with Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp [CEI].

This is a mobile (remote) position, and the selected candidate must be located within the Northeast Ohio area.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Work safely in a variety of electric utility settings and adhere to all Accident Prevention Handbook (APH) work practices.
  2. Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, exercising independent judgment on complex projects and assignments.
  3. Maintain a safe workplace for coworkers and the community, based on knowledge of potential hazards and industry regulations.
  4. Provide exceptional service, continuous support, and proactive involvement regarding technical subject matter to leadership and peers.
  5. Utilize standard planning and protection tools, including CYME, Load Forecasting Data Management System (LFDMS), Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Viewer, PI ProcessBook, SEL AcSELerator, and Energy Management System.
  6. Conduct power system planning and analysis to study the impact of new customers, generators, or electrification trends.
  7. Perform protective device coordination studies and develop relay settings.
  8. Support various smart grid programs and initiatives, such as GridMod II in Ohio.
  9. Create projects and detailed scopes for future capital infrastructure investment.
  10. Provide prompt technical support and analysis to the Distribution Control Center (DCC) for planned and emergency load shifts, mobile substation installations, and troubleshooting for miscoordinations or misoperations.
  11. Support storm response as a hazard dispatcher, hazard responder, or as assigned.
  12. Work overtime to support storm efforts or other special projects as business needs require.
Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's of Science degree in Engineering (BSEE, BSCE, BSME) from an ABET accredited institution is required. Acceptable alternatives are a Professional Engineer's (PE) License or a Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering or technical field of study (non-ABET) plus an advanced degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program.
  2. A minimum of three years engineering experience is required; advanced degree a plus.
  3. Understanding of electrical engineering and utility power system concepts with ability to learn new complex electrical topics quickly.
  4. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an emphasis on understandable and clear technical writing and presentation skills.
  5. Possess strong knowledge, maturity, and decision-making skills regarding electrical problems and analyzing complex information.
  6. Detail-oriented, accurate, and able to understand and interpret complex technical information.
  7. Solid computer skills with competency in Microsoft Office products (particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), along with a working knowledge of CAD and GIS software systems.
  8. Able to work both independently and in team environments.
  9. Possess strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to customer satisfaction.
  10. Self-motivated and a self-starter, customer-focused, results-oriented and a team player.
  11. Demonstrate a questioning attitude and desire to continue to learn, produce results, and develop relationships with other departments and customers.
  12. Deliver quality, accurate work within established deadlines.
  13. Possess and maintain a valid state-issued driver's license.
  14. Willing and able to travel throughout the service territory periodically, and willing to work extra and/or irregular hours during unusual circumstances (e.g. storm restoration efforts).
