Barge Operations Specialist

Primary Duties:- Preparation and Transfer: Ready barges for the loading and unloading of cargo, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.
- Tow Construction: Assist in the assembly of tows by managing lines and cables for the secure tying and untying of barges and boats.
- Maintenance and Housekeeping: Perform routine maintenance on vessels and uphold cleanliness standards.
- Line Management: Oversee lines and rigging during the processes of tow construction, locking, and docking.
- Barge Operations: Execute the dropping, spotting, and switching of barges at docks as required.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve barge-related issues during cargo transfers.
- Safety Reporting: Notify the Captain of any unsafe conditions and implement corrective measures.
- Watch Schedule: Adhere to a rotating schedule of six hours on duty followed by six hours off.
- Regulatory Compliance: Follow all company policies and adhere to US Coast Guard and environmental regulations.
- Must be at least 18 years old to work on a vessel.
- Possess a valid USCG Merchant Mariner's Credential with a Tankerman endorsement.
- Must have or be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
- Successfully pass a USCG mandated physical examination, including tests for benzene exposure and respirator fit.
- Demonstrate proficiency in English, both written and spoken, in accordance with USCG standards.
- Willingness to be away from home for extended periods, typically following a schedule of 28 days on duty and 14 days off.
- Able to manage rigging loads up to specified weight limits.
