We are seeking a highly skilled Physician Assistant/Neonatal Nurse Practitioner to join our team at Connecticut Children's. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide high-quality patient care, work collaboratively with our medical staff, and contribute to the growth and development of our organization.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct thorough evaluations of newborns, including histories and examinations, to identify level of illness severity and develop effective care plans.
- Work closely with supervising physicians to present assessments and recommendations for patient care.
- Perform procedures under guidance and seek assistance when needed.
- Apply medical knowledge to common diagnoses, expand clinical knowledge through independent learning, and incorporate issues of child health advocacy and preventive healthcare.
- Provide basic evaluation and diagnostic testing for common diagnoses, recommend broad evaluation based on unfocused differential diagnosis, and report results of diagnostic studies.
- Gather patient information, adapt templates as needed, and prioritize pertinent positives and negatives based on broad diagnostic categories or possible diagnoses.
- Presents clinical facts to preceptors, supervising physicians, and care teams, generates unfocused differential diagnoses, and completes assigned patient care responsibilities.
- Participates in the creation of patient management plans, discusses plans with patients/families, and attends deliveries with preceptors until independence in neonatal resuscitation is established.
- Exposes to core procedures, performs them under guidance, and seeks guidance when adjusting communication strategies to mitigate barriers and meet patient/family expectations.
- Graduate degree in nursing or physician assistant program accredited by a national certifying body.
- Current licensure as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner in the State of Connecticut or New York, or certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, Inc.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) certification within 3 months of hire.
- Federal DEA and CT controlled substance registration may be required, depending on privileges for role.
