POSITION SUMMARY:

The Basic EMT will deliver care and transport emergency and non-emergency patients in pre-hospital settings, adhering to the Basic EMT level of care as defined by the Ohio EMS scope of practice. The Basic EMT will operate an ambulance safely and efficiently while maintaining current certifications and continuing education.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Respond to emergency calls and conduct patient assessments.
  • Administer basic airway management in accordance with Ohio EMS standards.
  • Perform CPR and utilize an AED as necessary.
  • Participate in mandatory training sessions.
  • Ensure safe and effective patient transport.
  • Maintain accurate reports and documentation.
  • Care for the ambulance and medical equipment.
  • Uphold patient confidentiality and advocate for patient/family rights.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Embody Mercy Core Values in all actions.
  • May serve as a mentor or educator for students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Educational Requirements:

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED

Preferred Education: Vocational/Technical Degree

Licensing and Certification:

Required: Basic EMT Certificate from the State of Ohio

Required: Valid Driver's License and AHA Healthcare Provider BLS certification

Preferred: IS 100 and IS 700 certifications

Experience:

Preferred: 1-3 years of relevant experience

Other Skills and Abilities: Completion of Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) within one year of hire.
