Position Overview
The State of Delaware's Department of Health and Social Services, specifically the Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health, is seeking a Chief Psychiatrist for the Delaware Psychiatric Center. This full-time role (37.5 hours/week) or 30-hour position is responsible for overseeing psychiatric, medical, laboratory, and pharmacy services at a state-operated facility that accommodates both community and forensic clients. Key responsibilities include ensuring adherence to clinical standards, supervising a team of psychiatrists and primary care physicians, participating in committees, and delivering direct patient care. The Chief will also support the Psychiatry Residency Program and report to the Medical Director of the Division.Key Responsibilities
The following are essential functions associated with this role:
Conduct comprehensive diagnostic interviews and physical assessments to evaluate the mental and physical health of individuals. Formulate psychiatric diagnostic evaluations. Collaborate as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team, including nurses, psychologists, and other healthcare providers, to develop effective treatment and discharge plans. Administer therapeutic interventions in line with established treatment plans. Monitor patient care, progress, and responses to treatment. Provide clinical guidance to psychiatric residents and medical students. Offer expert testimony or prepare professional opinions for legal proceedings. Contribute to ongoing research initiatives. Maintain precise medical documentation and prepare necessary reports.Qualifications
