Job Overview

At Northwestern Memorial Healthcare, we are seeking a skilled Respiratory Technician to join our team. As a Respiratory Technician, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our healthcare organization.

Responsibilities

* Perform basic respiratory care procedures, including patient chart and physician order review, patient assessment, equipment operation and management, and monitoring and recording of patient therapies and physiologic responses to therapies.

* Comply with bronchial hygiene protocols and initiate, check, maintain, and discontinue basic and intensive oxygen therapy techniques and respiratory therapy treatments.

* Establish and maintain airways in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and initiate external cardiac massage as needed.

* Instruct patients, family members, and other healthcare personnel in proper use of respiratory therapy and techniques.

* Change equipment used by patients per policy and perform minor repairs on respiratory equipment.

* Participate in educational programs, including in-services and research projects, to enhance your skills and knowledge.

* Assist medical staff and respiratory therapists during special procedures and as needed in the intensive care units.

* Complete all documentation for patient charting in compliance with established standards for accuracy and content.

* Utilize respiratory protection equipment to prevent occupational exposure to respiratory hazards.

* Contribute to ongoing clinical research projects leading to publication, presentations, and changes in practice protocol.

Requirements

* High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in respiratory therapy or a related field preferred.

* Current certification as a respiratory therapist or equivalent experience.

* Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.

* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with patients, families, and healthcare teams.

* Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

* Willingness to participate in ongoing education and training to stay current with industry developments and best practices.
