**Responsibilities:**

* Perform basic respiratory care procedures, including patient chart and physician order review, patient assessment, equipment operation and management, monitoring and recording of patient therapies and physiologic responses to therapies.
* Comply with bronchial hygiene protocol(s).
* Initiate, check, maintain and discontinue basic and intensive oxygen therapy techniques and respiratory therapy treatments.
* Establish and maintain an airway in cardiopulmonary resuscitation. May initiate external cardiac massage.
* Instruct patients, family and other Northwestern Medicine personnel in proper use of respiratory therapy and techniques.
* Change all equipment used by patients per policy for sterile set, checking function while applying mixes, medications used in Respiratory Therapy treatments.
* Perform minor repairs on respiratory equipment. Follow proper equipment maintenance procedures.
* Participate in educational programs to include in-services and involvement in research projects.
* Assist medical staff and respiratory therapists by providing support during special procedures and as needed in the intensive care units.
* Complete all documentation for patient charting in compliance with standards for accuracy and content established by the Department.
* Utilize respiratory protection equipment while performing job responsibilities to prevent occupational exposure to respiratory hazards.
* Assist with ongoing clinical research projects leading to publication, presentations and/or changes in practice protocol.

**Qualifications:**

* Basic Life Support - American Heart Association
* Currently Enrolled in an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program

**Preferred:**

* Advanced Cardiac Life Support - American Heart Association
* Associate Degree (AAS)
