Job Summary

The Transportation Associate transports residents to various events and appointments on and off campus. This role requires safe and responsible operation of automobiles, small, and large passenger buses. The Transportation Associate presents a positive image of Williamsburg Landing and maintains effective relationships with residents and staff.

This part-time position requires weekend work and some evening/nights for special events. The base pay rate is $16.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.

Essential Job Functions

  • Conducts pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting any mechanical or electrical failure to the Transportation Coordinator.
  • Picks up residents or staff at the appointed time and place, assists with packages, walkers, wheelchairs, or other impediments to easy entry into the vehicle.
  • Ensures resident and wheelchair safety with seatbelts or locking mechanisms before beginning the trip.
  • Follows all road safety rules, reports accidents immediately to the Transportation Supervisor, and follows procedures for obtaining emergency roadside assistance.
  • Maintains accurate passenger logs and turns them in to the Transportation Supervisor.
  • Keeps vehicles clean, comfortable, and safe.
  • Makes meal deliveries to shut-in residents.
  • Evaluates work processes and methods, submitting recommendations for continuous quality improvement.
  • Assists in covering extra trips and non-scheduled shifts as needed.

Qualifications

A valid Virginia driver's license and a good driving record are required. A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a class A, B, or C with passenger endorsement, and a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical are also necessary.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Safe and regular lifting of up to 50 pounds is required. Ability to exercise sound judgment in emergency situations and general knowledge of local roads are preferred.
