Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Patient Transporter/Parking Valet/Service Officer to join our team at University of Utah Health. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for transporting patients to and from their beds and other areas of the hospital, as well as providing valet parking services and assisting with traffic control.

Key Responsibilities
  • Transport patients to and from their beds and other areas of the hospital using wheelchairs, beds, or stretchers.
  • Assist in the transport of essential supplies during traumas and cardiac arrests.
  • Handle items such as IV bags, oxygen masks, oxygen tanks, urine drainage bags, blood bags, and medical monitoring devices that may be attached to the patient during transport.
  • Transport expired patients to the morgue by stretcher.
  • Initiate the call, upon patient discharge, alerting all departments involved in the bed turnover process.
  • Pick up and deliver routine and STAT laboratory specimens, blood, and medical items.
  • Properly use the EPIC patient transport system.
  • Collaborate with other employees to ensure that the needs of the patient and department are met.
  • Park and retrieve patient vehicles upon arrival and departure in a safe, timely, and professional manner.
  • Direct and assist patients and visitors as they enter and exit the hospital parking areas, hospital lobby, and assist patients exiting and entering their vehicles.
  • Document all vehicle tag information, claim numbers, and key storage locations accurately.
  • Ensure that vehicles are returned in the same condition in which they were received.
  • Work as part of a team in keeping staging areas clear and maintaining smooth traffic flow in and out of the parking areas and terraces.
  • Perform simple repairs to parking control equipment and assist patients and visitors with minor repairs such as flat tires and dead batteries.
  • Coordinate with Parking Services and security to patrol and enforce patient and visitor parking areas.
  • Address lighting and safety issues located in the parking areas and assist in keeping areas free of debris.
  • Assist in emergency situations by directing emergency vehicles and maintaining traffic control as needed.
  • Investigate and report accidents within parking valet areas and educate involved patrons on how to proceed regarding the damage.
  • Remove snow and ice from hospital entrance and terrace areas.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated potential ability to perform the essential functions as outlined above.
  • Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.
  • Ability to display active listening and verbalize empathy.
  • Ability to quickly learn new procedures and processes.
  • Able to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to develop relationships with patients, guests, and coworkers.
  • Have knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient information is guarded and respected.
  • Ability to drive a manual transmission vehicle.
Qualifications
  • Current, valid Utah driver's license at time of hire with no moving violations in the preceding two years.
  • Licenses Required: Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands

This position involves intermediate working conditions in a healthcare setting that may exert up to 100 pounds and may consistently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving patients or objects.

This position may stand for sustained periods of time and/or walk for long distances moving from one area to another.

This position is subject to outside environmental conditions.
