We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team at the City of Kingston. As a Heavy Equipment Operator, you will be responsible for operating various types of motor equipment, performing manual tasks, and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our vehicles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate a variety of motor equipment, including trucks, snowplows, and other attachments.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on Department equipment.
  • Perform manual labor, such as loading trucks, digging ditches, cleaning culverts, mowing, trimming, etc.
  • May supervise a small group of laborers as specific tasks require.
Requirements
  • Good knowledge of the operation of trucks and other automotive equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to report to emergencies within a thirty minute time frame.
  • Dependability.
  • Good physical condition.
Qualifications
  • Graduation from High School or possession of a High School Equivalency diploma.
  • A valid New York State Driver's license at time of application.
  • Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License within six (6) months of appointment date.
  • Ability to pass a D.O.T. pre-employment drug screen and physical.
  • Ability to pass a skills test (road test).
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of D.O.T. regulations.
