Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Security Research Engineer for the Cortex Xpanse Security Research Engineering team. In this role, you will be instrumental in the development, validation, and deployment of vulnerability signatures and protocol payloads utilized by our scanning infrastructure to identify vulnerabilities across client networks. Additionally, you will create new policies that encapsulate risky device configurations as executable code based on insights from our global scanning data. You will play a vital role in proactively identifying vulnerabilities and misconfigurations from newly discovered CVEs and addressing customer inquiries.
Your Contributions
- Enhance Xpanse's vulnerability response by implementing essential signatures and payloads to detect critical CVEs while ensuring effective communication with the Xpanse team and across Palo Alto Networks.
- Investigate emerging threats and develop proof of concepts to identify confirmed and inferred vulnerabilities.
- Research and create fingerprints to assist Xpanse in recognizing and categorizing various services operating on the global Internet.
- Proactively incorporate customer-requested policies and implement protocol payloads while minimizing false positives and negatives.
- Explore new vulnerability threats on the global Internet and contribute to Cortex Research publications.
Your Background:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent professional or military experience). Successful candidates typically have early to mid-level career experience.
- In-depth knowledge of network security vulnerabilities, CVSS scoring, and exploitation techniques.
- Familiarity with programming languages such as Java, Python, Go, or Bash.
- Ability to clearly communicate complex topics to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Capability to work independently as a researcher and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
- Experience with SQL and Regex.
- Prior experience in open-ended security research and public dissemination through blogs and publications.
- Hands-on experience in security research, systems security, or network security.
