Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated chemist to join our dynamic team at ITW. As a key member of our innovation team, this role will lead and support the formulation of complex chemistries and product development from concept to commercialization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conceptualize and develop formulations to meet customer needs and specifications.
  • Test and evaluate chemistries against specifications, and troubleshoot development as necessary.
  • Write and perform test protocols based on customer end usage.
  • Provide detailed information about process control and adjustments in writing, before a product is transferred to quality control or production.
  • Understand internal manufacturing processes to produce quality products.
  • Work with sales and technical managers to analyze technical opportunities for customer solutions and recommend feasibility.
  • Develop specialty, multi-layer coatings using various technologies.
  • Manage multiple projects and/or large complex projects from concept to commercialization, including visiting customer sites and performing pilot runs.
  • Understand and improve internal manufacturing processes, troubleshoot scrap issues, and initiate cost savings throughout development and/or manufacturing processes.
  • Host visiting customers and vendors, and provide support as requested.
  • Travel to customer sites as required to troubleshoot product problems in production, and perform testing and analysis to verify customer needs are met.
  • Qualify and specify vendors to use on various materials, and source alternate and/or lower cost materials.
  • Understand all responsibilities regarding the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and follow all safety rules and maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
  • Direct team members on large projects, and mentor and train less experienced chemists.
