Early Childhood Special Education Instructor

Job Overview:


The Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) Instructor is responsible for delivering specialized educational services as specified in the Individualized Education Program (IEP) to preschool-aged children within a structured classroom environment.

This role also involves providing tailored educational support to preschoolers in various community settings, including daycares and private homes.

Collaboration with general education personnel at preschools and daycares is essential to ensure that effective instructional strategies, accommodations, and modifications are implemented for students with special needs.

This position operates under the supervision of the Principal.

Successful candidates will be part of the Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) Special Education Residency Cohort, which integrates enrollment in a Special Education Graduate program and employment within ACPS.

Acceptance into the Graduate program is a prerequisite for participation in this role.

Qualifications:

Education:
A Bachelor’s degree is required;

Certificates & Licenses:
A valid Virginia Department of Education license with a Special Education endorsement, or eligibility to obtain such a license.

Compensation:

This position is eligible for an additional step placement on the Licensed Salary Scale under the Specialized Instruction category.


Key Responsibilities:


Implement preschool curricula, design individualized instructional plans, and select educational materials and strategies that are developmentally and culturally appropriate.

Collaborate with related service providers to devise and execute strategies tailored to each child's unique needs.

Guide families in adapting daily activities to support their children's developmental requirements at home and in the community.

Develop and execute IEP goals, accommodations, and services.

Document school and home visits to meet program compliance standards.

Evaluate students' progress towards established objectives and provide constructive feedback to parents, community preschool staff, and school administration.


Deliver special education services in community preschools and daycare centers by working alongside general education preschool teachers to make necessary instructional and environmental adjustments.


Partner with community educators and parents to manage student behavior, ensuring a safe and conducive learning atmosphere.

Conduct screenings, observations, and evaluations to assess developmental levels and determine the need for special education services.

Perform additional related duties as assigned to promote the efficient and effective operation of the educational unit.

Clearances:
Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.

Tuberculosis Skin Test.

Public Health Compliance.

Proof of COVID vaccination, with exemptions for religious or medical reasons considered.

Adherence to safety and health protocols is mandatory.
