Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician Specialist to join our team at Jefferson Specialty Pharmacy. The successful candidate will assist patients, physicians, and pharmacists in the completion of benefit investigations, prior authorizations, financial assistance applications, refill/adherence activities, and other programs that drive optimal outcomes for our patients.

Responsibilities
  • Enter patient information into our therapy-specific patient assessment software.
  • Initiate, complete, and follow up on the status of prior authorizations or appeals submitted to insurance carriers.
  • Assist with the filling and distribution of prescriptions under the direction of a patient care pharmacist.
  • Receives inbound and outbound calls to patients or physician offices regarding orders or prescription refill information.
  • Documents all communications, interactions, and other information in the patient's medical record.
  • Responsible for monthly follow-up calls to patients to discuss medication on hand, identify any barriers to patient adherence, and facilitate discussions with the clinical staff.
  • Explain insurance coverage to patients as it relates to their co-payment responsibility and financial resources available to them.
  • Contributes to departmental Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement activities.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • AS/BS degree preferred; Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) preferred.
  • 3+ years experience in customer service role.
  • 1+ years experience in a specialty pharmacy, hospital, health insurance company, benefits department, or other related healthcare environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of clinical software systems, Specialty Medications, and Medicare billing.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively in both written and verbal format with patients, physicians, payors, and clinical staff.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changes in the departmental needs.
  • Detailed oriented with excellent organization skills, ability to learn quickly, solve problems, and make informed educated decisions.
