Forensic Chemist

NMS Labs is seeking a highly skilled Forensic Chemist to join our team in Grand Prairie, TX. As a Forensic Chemist, you will be responsible for performing chemical and analytical testing, including the isolation and identification of chemical substances in forensic casework samples.

• Perform chemical and analytical testing, including the isolation and identification of chemical substances in forensic casework samples.
• Process and analyze forensic casework samples using various analytical techniques, including GCMS.
• Generate, interpret, review, and release test results.
• Maintain the appropriate chain of custody of evidence.
• Perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting of analytical instrumentation.
• Provide expert testimony in court.
• Perform and maintain quality assurance and quality control procedures.

• Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological science, or forensic science from an accredited university.
• Minimum of 16 semester credit hours in college-level chemistry coursework above General Chemistry.
• Coursework and labs in General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Analytical (Instrumental) Chemistry.
• 3 college-level semester credit hours in Statistics or be willing to take and pass a statistics course within one year of employment.
• Licensed by the Texas Forensic Science Commission within 1 year of hire, as applicable.

• ABC certified.
• Court testimony experience.

• Ability to hear.
• Vision (with correction) including color, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Standing, reaching with hands and arms, and using hands and fingers to manipulate instruments or equipment controls, computer keyboard, office equipment, objects or tools.
• Movement from one work location to another.
• Sitting and standing, sometimes for extended periods of time.
• Lifting objects up to 20 lbs.
• Ability to travel as needed for court testimony.
• Exposure to intermittent or constant sounds generated by equipment.
• Exposure to fumes, noxious odors, and dust.
• Handling of biological material and blood-borne pathogens.
• Handling of toxic or caustic chemicals.
• Proximity to moving parts.
