Job Summary

Lutheran Services Florida is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Early Childhood Educator to join our team. As an Infant Toddler Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality educational programs for infants and toddlers in our Early Head Start Program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Curriculum Development: Plan, develop, and implement daily lesson plans that meet federal performance standards and promote educational and enrichment activities for infants and toddlers.
  • Classroom Environment: Arrange classrooms into distinctive learning areas that foster an effective learning environment and promote child development.
  • Child Assessment and Progress Monitoring: Screen and assess infant and toddler-aged children to determine developmental and educational needs, and develop and implement individual education plans that comply with federal performance standards.
  • Classroom Management: Monitor meal and snack periods, classroom and restroom activities for toddlers, and playground activities to ensure a safe environment for infants and toddlers.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Document children's progress or lack thereof and complete all required manual and computerized forms and reports in accordance with federal requirements.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Initiate referrals to the appropriate Head Start Teacher by submission of required paperwork, use active supervision techniques, and maintain positive classroom behavior.
  • Relationship Building: Develop positive caregiver relationships with children and their families.
  • Professional Development: Participate in workshops and other meetings to acquire and disseminate information, and maintain a comprehensive and ongoing portfolio assessment for each child.
Requirements
  • Education: Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate, and a National Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) for Pre-school or Infant/Toddler Endorsement, or Florida Child Care Professional Credential (FCCPC) birth to five years old.
  • Experience: Two years' experience working with Head Start, Early Head Start, preschool, or kindergarten-aged children.
  • Additional Requirements: Proof of successful completion of the 45 hours of the Florida Child Care Facility Training, a Certificate of Completion of an approved 10-hour Developmentally Appropriate Practices for Infant/Toddlers Course, certification in First Aid and CPR, and successful completion of a Level II background screening, local criminal record check, health, TB, and drug screening prior to hiring.
