Mechanical Design Engineer for Data Collection Systems

About the Role

Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT) is seeking a skilled mechanical design engineer to develop and deploy modular data-collection systems at scale. These systems will be installed in various environments across the Amazon network, requiring modularity and pluggability to support multiple sensors and configurations.

About the Team

AFT powers the physical engine at the heart of Amazon, building and operating software, hardware, and processes that run the global network of fulfillment centers. Our team collaborates with machine learning scientists, fulfillment associates, labeling teams, field engineering and maintenance personnel, and customers across Amazon worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical systems for mounting cameras, optics, other sensors, wiring, computer systems, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Experience with industrial measurement, controls, and mechanical conveyance and safety systems is a plus.
  • Engage with customers ranging from executives to developers and warehouse operations staff.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment with delivery times for new products and features typically measured in months.

Requirements

  • BS degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with prototyping and implementation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools.
  • Master's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume.
  • Experience with mechanical system limitations and impact to sensitivity of sensing systems.
  • Familiarity with industrial camera systems, and other types of industrial sensing and controls.
  • Strong interest and ability to learn customer requirements in the data collection space.
  • Excellent Oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to develop software for experimental prototyping purposes.
  • Ability to design, acquire, and prototype mechanical systems and components to support sensor data collection.

Compensation

The base pay for this position ranges from $105,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
