Position Title: Elementary Speech Therapist

Role Overview: The Elementary Speech Therapist is accountable to the school administrators and the Speech-Language Coordinator. This professional provides essential services to students with identified speech and language challenges, collaborates with educational staff regarding the communication needs of students, and engages in a comprehensive support framework by offering assistance in communication, literacy, and behavioral strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Educates faculty about the speech-language program, including referral processes, intervention techniques, support strategies, assessment methods, and scheduling for therapy sessions.
  • Develops and manages a therapy schedule tailored to the requirements of each school and its students, adhering to state educational guidelines.
  • Complies with relevant state regulations and district policies regarding speech-language services.
  • Addresses the unique needs of students by creating therapeutic materials, facilitating classroom communication, and supporting the overall educational framework.
  • Keeps a precise attendance record of services rendered throughout the academic year, ensuring proper documentation in student files.
  • Maintains up-to-date Medicaid records for each student on the caseload, ensuring compliance by the end of each month.
  • Participates in the thorough evaluation and reevaluation processes for students with speech-language concerns.
  • Updates Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students on the caseload, ensuring goals and objectives are tailored to individual needs.
  • Attends Child Study Team meetings as necessary.
  • Acts as a resource for school staff, study groups, and community organizations.
  • Contributes to special projects as assigned by the Speech-Language Coordinator.

Additional Responsibilities: Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Equipment Proficiency: The individual must demonstrate proficiency in using standard office equipment, including computers, scanners, copiers, and fax machines, while adhering to organizational guidelines.

Travel Requirements: Occasional travel between schools and administrative offices may be necessary.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Ability to work in typical office and school environments.
  • Capability to participate in outdoor activities during student events.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with various stakeholders.
  • Basic computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Word and Outlook, validated through assessments.
  • Sound judgment in decision-making for routine tasks.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors when discretion is required.
  • Exhibits professionalism and confidentiality in all interactions.
  • Adheres to professional standards of dress and appearance.
  • Understanding of the organization's mission, objectives, and the role of each employee in achieving them.

Interpersonal Relations:

  • Engages with district personnel, customers, and vendors.
  • Works under the direct supervision of the department head to fulfill daily responsibilities.
  • Interacts with a diverse population, requiring tact and diplomacy.
  • Responds appropriately to customer needs while maintaining a positive demeanor.
  • Expected to provide friendly, professional service to all internal and external customers.

Employee Conduct and Appearance:

  • Employees are expected to fulfill all assigned duties and adhere to scheduled hours unless prior leave is approved.
  • Any changes to scheduled hours must receive prior approval from the supervisor or building administrator.
  • All employees must present themselves in a manner that reflects positively on the organization and is suitable for their role.

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders, qualifying for a Speech-Language Pathology license through the relevant state department.
  • New graduates eligible for a temporary Speech-Language Pathology license, providing necessary supervision for full licensure, are also considered.

FLSA Status: Exempt
