Your Role and Responsibilities

The Licensed Funeral Service Professional plays a crucial role in transforming a person's final event into a meaningful celebration of their life through the services and arrangements provided to the deceased and their families. This position requires an empathetic individual who understands the importance of offering families all available options during their time of need. Responsibilities include:

  • Consulting with clients to finalize funeral arrangements, explaining service choices, assisting in casket selection, providing pricing details, and preparing standardized service contracts.
  • Executing technical and cosmetic embalming procedures.
  • Completing details discussed during arrangement meetings with appropriate tracking and compliance documentation.
  • Overseeing funeral services and visitations, which includes welcoming family members, opening the parlor, coordinating and instructing pallbearers, and escorting clergy to the chapel. May assist with funerals while not serving as the primary director or act as a hearse or limousine driver when necessary.
  • Preparing or coordinating the preparation and issuance of permits and documents related to funerals and embalming, including death certificates and permits from the coroner.
  • Transporting the deceased from homes or hospitals to the funeral home.
  • Ensuring the cleanliness of the preparation room and equipment.
  • Performing all other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a licensed funeral director and 2 years of post-secondary education.
  • Must possess a valid funeral director and embalmer license or the ability to obtain state licensure; must meet any additional licensing requirements as mandated by the state.
  • Graduated from an accredited institution of embalming or mortuary science.
  • Exhibits a high level of concentration and attention to detail over extended periods.
  • Able to occasionally stand or walk and frequently lift or push.
  • Possesses a valid state driver's license.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with others in a team-oriented environment.
