Job Summary

The Patient Care Assistant provides essential support to patients under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse. This role involves maintaining a clean and safe patient environment, performing tasks in a safe manner, and upholding clinical and professional competencies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support patients with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene and feeding.
  • Take vital signs and height and weight measurements, as well as perform routine venipuncture and administer 12-lead electrocardiogram tests.
  • Maintain patient rooms in a clean and orderly condition, observing and reporting changes in patient conditions.
  • Orient patients and families to the unit, instructing them on safety measures and assisting with clerical work.
  • Perform duties as outlined in the scope of Nurse Aide I or Nurse Aide II tasks, including maintaining stock supply items and performing technical tasks with appropriate training.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Current listing with the DFS Nurse Aide Registry as a Nurse Aide I or with the North Carolina Board of Nursing as a Nurse Aide II.
  • BLS required per policy guidelines.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Provide guest/transport services, including transporting patients with medical devices/equipment.
  • Coordinate activities to guide patients, visitors/guests, and staff to desired designations within the facilities.
  • Maintain equipment inventory throughout facilities, including stretchers, wheelchairs, beds, oxygen cylinders, and carriers.
Physical Requirements

The work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stretching, stooping, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies.
