Job Summary

Under the supervision of experienced professionals, the successful candidate will provide animal care and technical support services in a biohazard containment environment. This role involves routine animal care, laboratory technical procedures, and colony operations support related to indoor colony preventative health management, research support, breeding, animal training, and transportation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide experimental technical services support (60% of time)
  • Perform routine animal care tasks (30% of time)
  • Offer technical assistance (10% of time)
Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in laboratory animal care and technical procedures, with experience working with nonhuman primates. Familiarity with regulations and guidelines governing animal research is essential. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Animal Technician (ALAT) or Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) certification or equivalent experience
  • Laboratory animal technical experience working with nonhuman primates
  • Experience administering IM injections, dosing, performing venipuncture, and sample collections
  • Journey-level knowledge and experience as an animal technician in biohazard containment procedures under BioSafety Level (BSL) 2 or 3 facility

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified at the Laboratory Animal Technician level or have completed an Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) training from the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS)
  • Experience in specialty areas such as nonhuman primate facilities, barrier, hazard containment, and animal facility

Work Environment:

The successful candidate will work in a BioSafety Level (BSL) 2 or 3 facility where nonhuman primates may be either naturally or experimentally infected with potentially hazardous infectious agents. The employee shall participate in required preventative medical and medical monitoring programs, including blood tests, immunizations, TB screening, Blood borne and Airborne Pathogen training, etc.
