We are seeking a highly skilled Veterinarian 3 to join our team at the University of California-Davis. As a key member of our veterinary staff, you will provide comprehensive veterinary care and support services to our non-human primate colony.
Key Responsibilities- Provide clinical research support and conduct routine animal care rounds
- Oversee and coordinate workflow of assigned Animal Health Technicians (AHTs)
- Evaluate chronic metabolic cases and perform clinical procedures
- File and document laboratory results and assist in medical problem lists
- Provide veterinary support services to research investigators and collaborate on research projects
- Participate in research support activities and review records for non-breeders
- Write shift and case management summaries and provide training to students and AHTs
- Licensed DVM in the state of California (or attain CA license within 6 months from date of hire)
- Board-certified by the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine
- Successful completion of a residency program in Laboratory Animal Medicine and Surgery
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree (DVM) from a recognized and accredited school of veterinary medicine
- Experience in medical primatology and preventive medicine programs for laboratory housed non-human primates
- Experience in investigator project support and research design
- Applied experience of institutional, local, state, national and international rules and regulations governing the use and care of nonhuman primates
- Advanced clinical and surgical experience with large and small non-human primates
- Experience to provide consultation to senior management and scientists
- Skills to provide effective feedback to students and AHTs
- Ability to interact with pathologists and animal care staff
This position is subject to Medical Surveillance procedures and review in accordance with Federal and State Laws and Regulations and University Policy.
Must be willing to perform assigned duties in a BioSafety Level (BSL) 2 or 3 facility where non-humans primates may be either naturally or experimentally infected with potentially hazardous diseases.
Work on call, on a rotating basis, incumbent is expected to carry pager and provide 24 hour/after-hours veterinary coverage for on call emergencies.
