Our Work

We are seeking a Transportation Planner to join our team supporting the Volpe National Transportation Systems Center. As a Transportation Planner, you will work on projects focused on improving the performance of the nation's transportation system, analyzing transportation data, identifying trends affecting transportation needs, and developing research and strategic plans.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct background research and literature reviews to inform transportation planning initiatives
  • Attend and document meetings/conferences on transportation-related topics to stay up-to-date on industry trends
  • Contribute to the development of technical reports, white papers, and presentations to communicate complex information to stakeholders
  • Perform data analysis tasks to identify trends and patterns in transportation data

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field, with 3-5 years of experience in transportation planning or a related field
  • Excellent writing skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into concise narratives
  • Data analysis skills and experience using spreadsheet programs, such as Microsoft Excel
  • Experience using presentation software, such as Microsoft PowerPoint, Prezi, or Visio
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with periodic supervision
  • Knowledge of operator labor requirements and NTD data, as well as experience with technical writing about transit services
  • Ability to create and maintain General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) data
  • Experience with transit business model/pro-forma development and knowledge of day-to-day transit operations and system management

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience drafting briefings and technical reports
  • Public finance experience
  • Experience with statistical analyses and software, such as R, Python, and Stata
  • Familiarity with program/project evaluation frameworks
