Elementary ESL Instructor

Position Overview:

The Ames Community School District is on the lookout for dedicated professionals to join our team as Elementary ESL Instructors. These roles are designed to support students in grades K-8, providing essential language acquisition and academic assistance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver specialized English Learner (EL) services through an intensive instructional program.
• Administer state-mandated assessments for English Learners.
• Offer tailored academic support to EL students as required.
• Plan and implement individualized or small group instruction for EL students.
• Collaborate regularly with classroom teachers to address the diverse needs of EL students.
• Foster strong relationships with students and their families from various cultural backgrounds.
• Participate in professional development opportunities and district meetings focused on EL education.
• Support the implementation of a multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) for both behavioral and academic needs.
• Engage in collaborative planning within professional learning communities to enhance instructional strategies.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding student information at all times.

Qualifications:

• Possession of a valid teaching license with a K-12 ESL endorsement.
• Demonstrated knowledge of second language acquisition and effective teaching methodologies for EL students.
• Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to connect with culturally diverse students.
• Consistent attendance and punctuality are essential for fulfilling job responsibilities.
• Preferred experience in teaching ESL at the elementary level.
• Familiarity with guided reading practices and the MTSS framework.
• Ability to differentiate instruction to cater to the varied needs of all learners.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in a second language such as Spanish, Chinese, or Arabic is a plus.
