The KU Wichita Medical Practice Association is committed to delivering exceptional patient care through our dedicated team of healthcare professionals. As part of our Internal Medicine Department, this role is integral in supporting Physicians, Residents, and other Medical Providers in the provision of high-quality, patient-focused healthcare.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Main Duties:
- Manage incoming communications from patients, effectively triaging and prioritizing requests for medical advice, care plans, prescription renewals, test results, prior authorizations, and coordinating care with healthcare providers and nursing staff.
- Process medication refills in accordance with established protocols and secure necessary insurance authorizations.
- Input and coordinate provider orders for medications, laboratory tests, imaging, durable medical equipment, etc., while monitoring outstanding orders and following up to confirm completion and obtain results.
- Conduct care-related tasks including administering immunizations and injections, performing phlebotomy, conducting CLIA-waived lab tests, and assisting with in-office procedures.
- Oversee INR management in line with established guidelines.
- Administer and document developmental, hearing, and vision screening tests as directed.
- Prepare and review patient charts for upcoming appointments, ensuring retrieval of pending test results, consult reports, and identifying due preventive services.
- Provide and document chronic care management services and participate in population health management activities as assigned.
- Assist healthcare providers during examinations and procedures as required.
- Offer cross-coverage support on the clinic floor as necessary.
- Deliver patient education to patients and their caregivers.
- Contribute to maintaining a clean and organized team environment, securing patient health information, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
- Engage in clinic process improvement initiatives and team meetings to enhance operational efficiency.
- Exhibit reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Licenses & Certifications:
- Current Kansas RN or LPN license.
- IV certification is advantageous.
Experience:
- A minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience is required.
- Experience with electronic health records is preferred (we utilize eClinicalWorks).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office is a plus.
