Job Overview

The Certified Cytologist plays a crucial role in the diagnostic assessment of malignancies and various disease conditions through the analysis of both gynecological and a diverse range of non-gynecological samples.

Sign-On Bonus:

  • Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7 AM to 3:30 PM

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts microscopic examinations of specimens and performs cellular evaluations for the detection of cancer and identification of other pathological conditions.
  • Ensures accurate identification of specimens by verifying patient information and adhering to established protocols for specimen collection, preparation, processing, and evaluation.
  • Assesses cellular preparations to confirm adequate material on slides, ensuring compliance with CLIA regulations regarding the number of slides examined.
  • Distinguishes between normal and abnormal cellular elements, identifies both cellular and non-cellular components, and marks areas for further investigation.
  • Performs evaluations and preparations as per specific requests, provides additional diagnostic interpretations as necessary, and submits findings to the pathologist for final evaluation and reporting.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Cytotechnologist Certification
  • ASCP Registration

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ThinPrep Certification

Physical Requirements:

  • Engages in verbal communication with others.
  • Operates computers and intricate laboratory equipment, requiring dexterity in hand and finger movements.
  • Reads and interprets lab equipment, monitors, and documentation.
  • Maintains a seated or standing position for extended periods while performing tasks on a computer or laboratory equipment.
