Position Overview

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) serves as a vital clinical support partner, aiding the patient care team by executing various tasks and procedures as directed by licensed healthcare professionals.

Our observation unit is a specialized 15-bed facility catering to a diverse range of patients and medical conditions. We provide care for individuals who present to the emergency department but do not qualify for inpatient admission, yet require further evaluation and nursing care. Patients are typically monitored for 18-48 hours, with the goal of either transitioning to outpatient follow-up or inpatient care. This unit offers an excellent opportunity for skill development and learning, supported by a collaborative and enthusiastic team.

Shift Information:

  • Full-time position, 36 hours per week
  • Eligible for benefits

Responsibilities:

  • Address patient care needs by responding to call lights, assisting with personal hygiene, obtaining vital signs, and communicating effectively with the care team.
  • Perform 12-lead EKG duties in accordance with training and competency.
  • Apply and document restraints as instructed by the RN or physician.
  • Conduct wound care, stoma care, and specimen collection.
  • Manage equipment and tube care, including JPs, chemovacs, nasogastric tubes, and Foley removal.
  • Assist with patient transfers, admissions, and discharges while adhering to safe patient handling principles.
  • Order and maintain office and patient care supplies.
  • Fulfill unit secretary duties, including maintaining patient charts, responding to phone inquiries, and managing the daily assignment board.
  • Support physicians and RNs as directed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited nursing assistant training program.
  • Certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the state of practice.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS-HCP) certification upon hire or obtained within 60 days of hire with prior approval.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting.

Physical Requirements:

Employees must be able to see and read information, assess patient needs, operate monitors, and identify equipment and supplies. Frequent interactions with patients and care providers require effective verbal communication and the ability to hear and understand spoken information, especially in emergency situations. Manual dexterity is necessary for handling delicate equipment, and employees should be able to lift and move patients safely.
