Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Radiochemist Technician to join our team at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. As a key member of our radiochemistry team, you will be responsible for conducting complex radiochemical separations, mentoring and training staff, and fostering collaboration and growth among team members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conducts independent research and development of new procedures and methods for complex, non-routine processes.
  • Provides task leadership on project activities and helps structure and write analytical results, methods, and procedures.
  • Develops and delivers materials for technical presentations and contributes to publications.
  • Functions as an inter-disciplinary project lead and gives direction to other staff.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Qualifications:
    • High school diploma/GED and 6 years of relevant experience -OR-
    • Technical Institute Graduate (TIG)/relevant AA degree or higher and 4 years of relevant experience
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Strong analytical radiochemistry experience, including quantitative radiochemical separations.
    • Experience working under ASME-NQA-2008/2009 and addendum and ISO/IEC 17025:2005 or 217 quality assurance programs.
    • Significant experience in radiochemical counting techniques such as gross alpha/beta and liquid scintillation counting, alpha energy analysis, gamma energy analysis.
    • Analytical skills with ICP-MS, ICP-OES, GC-MS, ion chromatographic methods, spectrometry, total organic carbon, wet chemistry testing, wastewater testing, air particulate testing, and radiochemistry.
    • Knowledge of standard methods, ASME, industrial hygiene, EPA SW-846 RCRA methods, and air chemistry methods.
    Hazardous Working Conditions/Environment
    • Candidate will be trained and must perform to Radiation Worker standards (Radiological Worker II), as well as building and project procedures for managing radioactive and hazardous materials.
    • There will be occasional off-shift work evenings, nights and weekends.
    • Heavy lifting, up to 40 lbs., will be needed occasionally.
    Additional Information
    • Due to business needs and client space, US Citizenship is required.
    • Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is subject to the Department of Energy Unclassified Foreign Visits & Assignments Program site, information, technologies, and equipment access requirements.
    • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP). The candidate selected for this position will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing for illegal drugs, including marijuana, consistent with the Controlled Substances Act and the PNNL Workplace Substance Abuse Program.
