Position Overview

The role of the Property Underwriter involves evaluating and underwriting property facultative reinsurance programs across the United States. The Underwriter will engage in risk assessment, coverage evaluation, pricing strategies, and marketing efforts directed towards assigned brokers and clients.

Key Responsibilities

- Independently assess and underwrite certificate and program business in line with corporate and departmental guidelines.
- Evaluate new and renewal business, conducting comprehensive risk and coverage analysis, and provide informed recommendations for proposed terms within the delegated authority.
- Review primary policy documents, reinsurance contracts, and endorsements to ensure compliance and accuracy.
- Refer any business outside of the delegated authority to the appropriate referral underwriter.
- Analyze required risk information and propose suitable reinsurance solutions to brokers and clients.
- Maintain meticulous business records and documentation.
- Provide insights into quantitative and qualitative analyses of results for the Strategic Business Unit (SBU).
- Facilitate communication and coordination between the SBU, Reinsurance Division, and other relevant departments.
- Collaborate with Claims management as necessary.

Client Relationship Management

- Cultivate and sustain client relationships while identifying new business opportunities.
- Deliver prompt and effective service on all broker and direct client inquiries.
- Monitor the profitability of assigned clients and promote the Group's capabilities externally.

Review Participation

- Engage in peer reviews of team members' accounts.
- Participate in underwriting reviews of program clients or prospective clients, often in collaboration with the Reinsurance Division.

Qualifications

- A minimum of 7 years of experience in (re)insurance underwriting, the broker community, or corporate risk markets, with at least 5 years in underwriting preferred.
- A Bachelor's Degree is preferred; an advanced degree is a plus.
- CPCU or ARe designations are preferred.
- Proficiency in pricing models and risk evaluation tools is essential.
- Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills are required, along with a solid understanding of accounting, finance, and actuarial concepts.
- Experience managing client relationships and maintaining profitable partnerships is necessary.
- Willingness to travel for branch office visits, client audits, and industry conferences is expected (approximately 30% of the time).
