Overview:
Albany Medical Center is a premier tertiary care facility with a 766-bed capacity, recognized as a Level 1 trauma center. Our institution is equipped with 96 adult ICU beds, primarily allocated for surgical services, including trauma, advanced general surgery, complex urologic procedures, neurosurgery, high-risk spine interventions, and complex cardiac surgeries, along with mechanical circulatory support services.
Critical Care Services:
The Division of Critical Care encompasses specialized clinical service lines, including Surgical, Neurosurgical, and Cardiopulmonary Surgical Intensive Care. Our dedicated teams include nurse practitioners, residents, and fellows in trauma surgical critical care and cardiac anesthesia.
Trauma and Surgical Care:
As a Regional Level 1 Trauma Center, Albany Medical Center handles the highest volume of trauma cases in New York State, achieving exceptional patient outcomes. Our Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) admits over 1,800 patients annually, maintaining an average daily census of 26, addressing a diverse range of cases from trauma to complex surgical conditions.
Neurological and Cardiopulmonary Services:
The 15-bed Neurological Intensive Care Unit (Neuro ICU) is uniquely designed to cater to patients with severe neurological conditions or injuries. Additionally, the Cardiopulmonary Surgical ICU (CPS) focuses on post-operative care for patients undergoing various surgical procedures, from routine valve surgeries to intricate aortic and ventricular reconstructions. The CPS team also manages all LVADs and operates a comprehensive ECMO program.
Responsibilities:
In this role, you will provide patient care in operative and procedural settings utilizing the anesthesia care team model. Responsibilities also include offering didactic and clinical instruction to residents, medical students, and student nurse anesthetists. Engagement in clinical and educational research is highly encouraged.
