Overview:
Albany Medical Center stands as a premier tertiary care facility, featuring a 766-bed capacity and recognized as a Level 1 trauma center. Our institution is equipped with 96 adult ICU beds, primarily dedicated to surgical services, including trauma care, advanced general surgery, complex urologic procedures, neurosurgery, high-risk spinal surgeries, and intricate cardiac interventions, along with mechanical circulatory support services.
Critical Care Services:
The Division of Critical Care encompasses clinical service lines that are categorized into Surgical, Neurosurgical, and Cardiopulmonary Surgical Intensive Care. Our units benefit from the expertise of nurse practitioners, residents, and fellows specializing in trauma surgical critical care and cardiac anesthesia.
Trauma and Surgical Care:
As a Regional Level 1 Trauma Center, Albany Medical Center is acknowledged for managing the highest volume of trauma cases and achieving superior outcomes within New York State. Our Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) handles over 1,800 admissions annually, maintaining an average daily census of 26 patients, with a diverse array of cases, including trauma and complex surgical conditions.
Neurological and Cardiopulmonary Care:
The 15-bed Neurological Intensive Care Unit (Neuro ICU) is uniquely designed to cater to patients suffering from severe neurological conditions or injuries. Additionally, the Cardiopulmonary Surgical ICU (CPS) focuses on post-operative care for patients undergoing a range of procedures, from routine valve surgeries to complex aortic and ventricular reconstructions. The CPS service is responsible for managing all LVADs and boasts a comprehensive ECMO program.
Responsibilities:
The role includes delivering patient care in operative and procedural settings utilizing the anesthesia care team model. The position also involves providing didactic and clinical instruction to residents, medical students, and student nurse anesthetists. Participation in clinical and educational research initiatives is highly encouraged.
Additional Information:
Albany Medical Center administers approximately 45,000 anesthetics annually across various specialties in the main operating rooms, NORA locations, and a variety of ASC and office-based environments.
