Position Overview

Role Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated Lead Litigation Counsel to join our esteemed legal team at the Law Office of Elliott Kanter, APC. This full-time, exempt position is pivotal in managing a diverse range of civil and criminal litigation cases from start to finish.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Lead Litigation Counsel, you will be responsible for:

  • Independently overseeing a portfolio of criminal and civil cases, ensuring comprehensive management from initiation to resolution.
  • Maintaining strict adherence to deadlines to facilitate effective case advancement.
  • Providing insightful legal assessments and guidance while advocating for clients both in and out of court.
  • Conducting in-depth legal research and analysis to formulate robust case strategies.
  • Engaging with opposing counsel and self-represented parties to negotiate settlements and resolve disputes amicably.
  • Drafting and reviewing a variety of legal documents, including briefs, correspondence, and pleadings.
  • Preparing written discovery requests and responses.
  • Meeting with clients to discuss discovery responses, deposition preparations, and trial readiness.
  • Participating in client meetings, depositions, mediations, trials, and hearings.
  • Documenting case activities in accordance with firm policies.
  • Traveling to various court locations to manage all aspects of litigation.
  • Researching and interpreting laws and regulations to provide informed legal opinions.
  • Maintaining responsive communication with clients to foster strong relationships.
  • Engaging in ongoing professional development through educational opportunities to stay updated on legal changes.
  • Supervising junior attorneys, providing guidance, and reviewing their work product.
  • Performing additional duties as required.

Qualifications:
To be considered for this role, candidates must possess:

  • A Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Active membership in the California State Bar.
  • 5-7 years of experience in criminal law and/or civil litigation, ideally within a law firm environment.
  • Proven courtroom experience, including depositions and motion drafting.
  • Exceptional legal research and writing capabilities with a keen attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal case management software.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with a professional demeanor.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.

Work Environment:
This role requires in-person attendance at hearings, depositions, and trials, along with regular office presence. Reasonable accommodations will be made to support the successful performance of essential job functions.
