Environmental Health Specialist

The City of New York is seeking a highly skilled Environmental Health Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Division, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health and safety of our employees and the public.
Job Summary:The Environmental Health Specialist will assist in the development, maintenance, and improvement of effective and comprehensive environmental, health, and safety initiatives. This includes identifying worker and environmental risks through EHS inspections, assessments, and audits, conducting research, and educating personnel on safe work practices.
Responsibilities:- Conduct environmental, safety, and health inspections and assessments to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and City regulations.
- Conduct research and review relevant regulations and policies, including OSHA, PESH, and DEC.
- Perform job safety analyses and provide recommendations for engineering controls and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Conduct health and safety monitoring and investigate injury and illness accidents/incidents.
- Assist in the implementation of corrective actions associated with audits, environmental release reports, accident reports, and notices of violation.
- Assist in the implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Conduct applicable employee training and maintain records of training sessions.
- Participate in special projects related to the improvement of EHS programs.
- Perform field work at various locations in the City of New York.
- Prepare and submit complete and accurate reports.
- Track and maintain various records.
- Respond to emergencies as needed.
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by 28 semester credits in industrial hygiene, environmental health science, occupational health science, and/or safety engineering.
- One year of satisfactory full-time work experience in the identification, evaluation, and control of health and safety hazards.
- A Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York.
