Job Summary:

Rochester Precision Optics LLC is seeking a skilled CNC Machinist to join our team of precision optics specialists. As a CNC Machinist, you will be responsible for the setup and operation of CNC equipment, troubleshooting programs, tooling maintenance, and ensuring that all required processes are completed to produce high-quality optical components.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Blueprint Review and Understanding: Review and understand blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Machining and Setup: Aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines, such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and tooling pre-setter.
  • Machine Operation and Troubleshooting: Understand, calculate, and set controls to regulate machining factors, such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and enter command to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media; observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • Quality Control: Verifies conformance of finished work pieces to specifications, using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, comparator, height gauges, and gauge blocks.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
  • Documentation and Training: Comply with company requirements in completing essential documentation as required and train, assist, and support employees in producing quality parts and in completing all process requirements.
  • Safety and Maintenance: Assure all policies and procedures are followed and safety precautions are taken to reduce the risk of injury; maintain a clean work area and assure safe operation of all equipment.
Requirements and Competencies:
  • CNC Programming and Experience: CNC programming or experience preferred with ability to edit programs.
  • Problem-Solving and Adaptability: Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Communication and Teamwork: Ability to communicate effectively to team members and management and be a team player.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts.
  • Educational Requirements: High School Graduate or equivalent and 1-3 years CNC machining experience or demonstrated experience.
Work Environment:
  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to fingers, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Work Schedule: May involve prolonged periods of sitting/standing and working in a manufacturing environment with a loud noise level.
  • Personal Protective Equipment: Safety glasses are required, and lab coats are provided.
