Job Summary:

Rochester Precision Optics LLC is seeking a skilled CNC Machinist to join our team of precision optics specialists. As a CNC Machinist, you will be responsible for the setup and operation of CNC equipment, troubleshooting programs, tooling maintenance, and ensuring that all required processes are completed to produce parts that meet quality and ISO standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Blueprint Review and Understanding: Review and understand blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations, and set up requirements.
  • Machining Operations: Aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines, such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and tooling pre-setter.
  • Machine Control and Troubleshooting: Understand, calculate, and set controls to regulate machining factors, such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and enter command to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media; observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • Quality Control: Verifies conformance of finished work pieces to specifications, using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, comparator, height gauges, and gauge blocks.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
  • Documentation and Training: Comply with company requirements in completing essential documentation as required and train, assist, and support employees in producing quality parts and in completing all process requirements.
  • Safety and Maintenance: Assure all policies and procedures are followed and safety precautions are taken to reduce the risk of injury, maintain a clean work area, and assure safe operation of all equipment.
  • Availability and Flexibility: Must be available on reasonable notice for unscheduled overtime to meet production schedules.
  • Operator Preventative Maintenance: Perform and document Operator Preventative Maintenance operations as needed.
  • Machining Field Expertise: Must fully understand setup and operation of at least two machining fields (mills, chucker lathes, swiss lathes, grinders, EDMs, etc).
Requirements and Competencies:
  • CNC Programming and Experience: CNC programming or experience preferred with ability to edit programs.
  • Problem-Solving and Adaptability: Ability to work with minimal supervision, excellent problem-solving skills, and ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize accordingly.
  • Blueprint Reading and GD&T Knowledge: Ability to read blueprints and knowledge of GD&T.
  • Communication and Teamwork: Ability to communicate effectively to team members and management and ability to be a team player.
Language Skills:
  • Complex Document Analysis: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents.
Mathematical Skills:
  • Basic Mathematical Concepts: Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts.
Educational Requirements:
  • High School Graduate or Equivalent: High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • CNC Machining Experience: 1-3 years CNC machining experience or demonstrated experience.
Additional Requirements:
  • Export Compliance: Pursuant to ITAR, EAR, and other export compliance laws and regulations, applicants for this position must be U.S. Persons as defined by U.S. law.
Work Requirements:
  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to fingers, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and talk and hear.
  • Work Environment: May involve the use of oils and solvents, subject to some soilage and irritation from cleaning solutions, and generally works in a clean environment.
