The Pharmaceutical Care Specialist plays a crucial role in the Pharmacy Services Department, overseeing daily operations such as pharmacy coverage decisions, policy development, and member benefit coordination.

This position involves active participation in the Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) Committee, where you will review and present evaluations of new medications, drug classes, and relevant policies.

Additionally, you will ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations, serving as a clinical resource for internal staff and external partners as needed.



Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate drug coverage requests for members enrolled in PacificSource Health Plans.
  • Communicate effectively with members, healthcare providers, and internal teams through various channels, including clinical consultations and written correspondence.
  • Support clinical meetings with stakeholders as required.
  • Review and update prescription formularies based on current clinical guidelines.
  • Participate in P&T Committee meetings, preparing and presenting materials for discussion.
  • Lead or assist in assigned projects to enhance departmental functions.
  • Stay informed about relevant state and federal regulations affecting health insurance coverage.
  • Keep abreast of quality measures relevant to Pharmacy Services.
  • Monitor emerging clinical trends to inform practice.


Additional Responsibilities:
  • Provide backup support for team members and departmental operations.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Pharmacy Manager to refine processes and improve service delivery.
  • Represent the Pharmacy Services Department in various internal and external engagements.
  • Adhere to departmental performance and attendance standards.
  • Follow PacificSource privacy policies and HIPAA regulations to maintain confidentiality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a pharmacy-related role is preferred.
  • Experience in managing complex workflows and collaborating within a multidisciplinary team is highly desirable.
  • Registered pharmacist with a Pharm D degree or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy is required. Additional state-specific certifications may be necessary.
  • Post-graduate training (e.g., Residency, Fellowship, MBA, BCPS) is preferred.


Skills and Knowledge:
  • Ability to adapt and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and knowledge of pharmaceutical services regulations.
  • Proficient in assessing treatment alternatives and emerging drug technologies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision.


Work Environment:
This position is primarily office-based, requiring the ability to sit or stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks such as typing and filing. Occasional travel may be required.
