KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a member of the nephrology healthcare team, you will deliver safe and effective dialysis treatment for patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse.
- Prepare, test, and operate hemodialysis machines for patient treatments.
- Record and document necessary pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weight for each patient.
- Assess vascular access prior to treatment and perform vascular access cannulation.
- Identify intradialytic issues and provide interventions as prescribed by physician orders or as directed.
- Monitor patients' responses to dialysis therapy.
- Evaluate patients prior to the termination of venous access and discontinue dialysis treatment following established protocols.
- Communicate any significant information and/or changes in patient condition directly to the supervisor.
- Accurately enter all treatment data into the designated clinical application in a timely manner.
- Collect, label, prepare, and store lab samples according to laboratory specifications.
- Clean and disinfect dialysis machine surfaces, chairs, equipment, and surrounding areas between treatments in accordance with facility policies.
- Assist other healthcare team members in providing patient education.
- Organize and efficiently utilize supplies and equipment to minimize waste.
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. is required.
EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

- Previous patient care experience in a hospital or related facility is preferred but not mandatory.
- Continued employment is contingent upon successful completion of the Fresenius Medical Care dialysis training program and CPR certification.

The physical demands and characteristics of the work environment described here are representative of those encountered by an employee while performing the essential functions of this position.
- Employees must take the Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a condition of employment.
Note:
Failing the Ishihara Test for Color Blindness does not disqualify employment. We will assess whether reasonable accommodations can be made.
- Daily responsibilities include desk and personal computer work and interaction with patients, facility staff, and physicians. The position requires travel between assigned facilities and various locations within the community. Attendance at regional, business unit, and corporate meetings may be necessary.
- The work environment is typical of a healthcare facility with controlled air temperature and moderate noise levels. Exposure to infectious and contagious diseases/materials may occur.
- The position involves direct patient care that frequently requires heavy lifting and moving of patients and assisting with ambulation. Equipment aids and/or coworkers may provide assistance. This role necessitates frequent, prolonged periods of standing, and the employee must be able to bend over. The employee may occasionally need to push and/or pull equipment, exerting up to 15 pounds of force. The employee may be required to lift and lower solutions frequently up to 30 lbs., and occasionally lift up to 40 lbs., as high as 5 feet. There is a 2-person assist program and 'material assist' devices for heavier items.
